Sondra’s artistic journey began more than 30 years ago, with extensive formal training as a hair stylist and makeup artist, specializing in film, theatre and opera.
Over time, her area of interest and creativity expanded to include various studies including design, color history, color psychology, the areas of technique, drawing, and the textile arts. Her aptitude encompassed not only the styling and painting of bodies, but also large-scale murals, textile pieces, ‘functional art’ and furniture, before completely embracing the realm of abstract and expressionist art.
Sondra’s depth of emotional intensity and passion for life, is revealed in her painting style, with an impassioned release of broad strokes, rich textures, and a highly esthetic sense of color.
Continual self reflection, and her awareness and sensitivity to the world around her, inspires the expression of her life’s experiences past and present. From the mundane to the miraculous, they are voiced through color, texture and form. Using a variety of techniques and a mixture of mediums such as graphite, oil stick, marble dust, wax, charcoal, collage, and a personal symbology coded with scribbles of numbers, letters and text, they unite on a deeper level, bringing the viewer further into the more intimate meaning of her work.
Sondra’s work can be found internationally, in private collections throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, the UK, and Australia.
